IG Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali removed from post ISLAMABAD: The Federal government has removed Inspector General Police (IGP) Sindh Ghulam Hyder Jamali from his post on Saturday. Allah Dino Khawaja has been appointed as the new IG Sindh Police, according to a copy of the notification issued by the Establishment Division. Khawaja had been serving as Additional IG (special branch) and was also a member of an inquiry committee, along with Additional IG (counterterrorism) Dr Sanaullah Abbasi and Additional IG Naeem Shaikh, which set up to probe illegal appointments. On Thursday, Jamali conceded before the three-judge SC bench that out of the 12,000 appointments made in the Sindh Police, 5,000 appointments were illegal. The court ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to investigate the bogus recruitments as well as the unjust disbursement of investigation funds. NAB has been instructed to submit a report after four weeks. Earlier this week, the apex court rejected an application of the Sindh police chief asking Justice Amir Hani Muslim to recuse himself from continuing to hear the proceedings regarding withholding of funds meant for the investigation wing of police and their disbursement for other purposes because of his bias. Jamali and other senior police officers were also indicted by the Sindh High Court in December 2015 in a contempt of court case over a petition filed disowned Pakistan Peoples Party leader Dr Zulfikar Mirza for besieging the SHC and adjoining antiterrorism courts on May 19 and 23.
